You be the judge giving answers to the following in your notebooks:
Case 1:
Sam and Gus (both 15) are walking along the street when they are approached by a police officer asking them if they knew anything about the letterboxes which have been kicked over in a nearby street. Sam became annoyed because he felt the police were accusing him of something he didn't do because of his mohawk haircut. Sam gave the policeman a false name and address.
What will happen next if the police officer ckecks Sam's details and finds out that he has lied?
Can they be arrested? Explain
They can, becuase they lied to police didn't say real address, Police have right to arrest him until this thing will finish in case the boys won't run away.
Case 2:
Stephanie is 14 and was caught by police with a quantity of marajuana in a number of plastic pockets. She told the police it was for her own use. The police kept her at the police station for 6 hours before questionning her. They then interviewed her for a further 4 hours until she agreed to sign a statement and charged her for drug trafficking.
What would you say about this case? Has Stephanie been treated fairly and will her confession be used as evidence against her when she goes to Court? Explain
